Taiwan has been through many cycles of lotto mania in a history which dates back to the early 1950s. The biggest problem was the “大家樂” Ta-chia-le ("Everybody Happy") craze that happened around 1978’s, when the government issued lottery shut down. People turned their mania to the underground. This illegal gambling had such influence on people’s everyday lives, from their homes to their offices. Most people believed that the numbers would be seen in every natural phenomenon. Therefore they prayed in every possible temples and even prayed to the rocks, trees, and some objects. This corruption made people broke and crime increased.
The Taiwan lottery business was revived in 1999 and is now issued by different banks. For now, most people in Taiwan play the lottery as a game, but still some people become addicted to it as a form of gambling. Also, one can have a chance to win NT$2 million (about US$600000) at no cost just by getting a recept with every purchase, something we call the “Receipt Lottery”.
In these designs, one can see real numbers in the real objects, not just in your imaginations!
